Welcome to Globulation 2

Globulation 2 is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game which reduces micro-management by automatically assigning tasks to units. Take a look at the screenshots or just download and try it right now. Glob2 is Free Software, licensed and distributed under the GNU General Public License.

Description

The player chooses the number of units to assign to various tasks, and the units do their best to satisfy the requests. This allows the user to manage more units and focus on strategy rather than individual units' jobs. It can be played by a single player, through your Local Area Network [LAN], or over the Internet thanks to Ysagoon Online Gaming (pronounced yog as in yoghurt) - a meta-server allowing transparent interaction between players and the IRC chatters on #glob2 (irc.freenode.net). It features AI allowing single-player games or any possible combination of human-computer teams. Also included is a scripting language for versatile gameplay or tutorials and an integrated map editor.

You Can Help!

Glob2 isn't just a bunch of code - we need art, maps, sound effects, and documentation to make a fun game. If you want to see your name in Glob2's credits, jump right in!

Of course, we could also do with programmers - Nuage and nct are currently the main coders, sparing time from their jobs to work on the game. But a game such as this is a huge undertaking, and help is always welcome.

The first steps would be to have a look on the forum, join the mailing list, drop into the developers' IRC channel (#globulation2 on irc.freenode.net), and look around this site. If you're interested in writing code, the best place to start looking for now is in the code bazaar.

Some examples of things you could help with are:

  • There's always a need for corrections to the current graphics: the end goal is nothing less than perfect pixel art
  • There are bits and pieces missing - for example, half-created and half-destroyed buildings. Those are quite easy to do as they can be created from the original buildings.
  • If you feel overly ambitious (we know it is a huge undertaking), the basic tiles need to be redone.
  • The Fruit Trees could bear some love, too...
