Welcome to Glob2!Globulation 2 is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game which reduces micro-management by automatically assigning tasks to units. Take a look at the screenshots or just download and try it right now. Glob2 is Free Software, licensed and distributed under the GNU General Public License. We are currently migrating away from our old wiki. If you see anything there which hasn't yet been moved across, please do so! DescriptionThe player chooses the number of units to assign to various tasks, and the units do their best to satisfy the requests. This allows the user to manage more units and focus on strategy rather than individual units' jobs. It features AI allowing single-player games or any possible combination of human-computer teams. Also included is a scripting language for versatile gameplay or tutorials and an integrated map editor. You can play Glob2 in single player mode, through your local network, or over the Internet with Ysagoon Online Gaming (pronounced yog as in yoghurt). You can often find people to play with in the channel #glob2 on irc.globulation2.org (see IRC). StatusThe game is currently moving towards a 1.0 release - we have just released our first beta version of the game, so no new gameplay features will be added before we reach version 1.0. Once we're satisfied that the we've chased the last bugs out of the system so far as we can, we will release version 1.0. Major work is now being done in the 1.1 branch (which for historical reasons is often referred to as the "map-rewrite" branch). The plan at present is that the 1.1 release should be largely a developer's release, with a thorough review and rewrite of the code, but no significant changes to gameplay. You Can Help!Glob2 isn't just a bunch of code - we need art, maps, sound effects, and documentation to make a fun game. If you want to see your name in Glob2's credits, jump right in! The first steps would be to have a look on the forums, join the mailing list, drop into the developers' IRC channel (#globulation2 on irc.freenode.net), and look around this site. Some things we really need help with are:
News07/12/2005 : Message from FSF France, for urgent distribution: Because pressure from music and film industry, the French governement wants to forbid peer-to-peer Free software before christmas. The music industry is ready "to sue free software authors who will continue to release their source code", saying that "if they do not give up, they are going to be forced into changing the licence". This follows the closure of Grokster software comany in the US. For more information, visit FSF France. The Globulation 2 community is very concerned by this - the apparent rush to force this through under cover of Christmas gives the strong impression that the French government is prepared to ride roughshod over the Open Source community when pressured by business. If you live in France, please read the above article and write to your deputee about this problem. Game NewsThe latest release is always available from the download page.
